We are delighted to have been awarded a contract to install a cutting-edge solar PV system at Torquay Athletic Rugby Club, one of England’s oldest and most respected rugby teams. The club has a proud tradition of fostering talent and engaging with the local community. Now, it is taking a significant step toward sustainability by committing to renewable energy solutions.

Following a competitive selection process, our proposal proved the most economically advantageous, delivering more panels and battery storage for the Club’s budget compared with other local proposals, effectively doubling their energy capacity.

To ensure seamless project execution, we will work closely with Torquay Borough Council to meet all building regulations and collaborate with CASE Consultants to assess the structural capacity of the club’s historic stand. Where necessary, reinforcements will be implemented to ensure the safety and longevity of the installation.

Project Execution and Timeline
The installation will be carefully phased to minimise disruption to the rugby season. Given that the pitch is shared with the local cricket club during the summer months, scheduling will be managed strategically to accommodate both sports. Additionally, scaffolding access will be optimised to facilitate both the solar panel installation and essential maintenance work.

Once completed, the solar PV system will significantly enhance the club’s energy efficiency. The installation will include high-capacity panels and battery storage units to maximise energy savings and allow surplus power to be exported back to the grid. This move not only reduces the club’s operational costs but also aligns with their commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Beyond the immediate benefits, the club’s investment reinforces their role as a forward-thinking community hub. By embracing renewable energy, they’re setting a precedent for local organisations looking to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining financial stability.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to support Torquay Athletic Rugby Club on their transformative journey to achieve energy independence and a Net Zero, low-carbon facility.

Chris Siddall, Torquay Athletics’ Director of Facilities and Grounds, said: “The project has been high on our agenda, not only to reduce the club’s energy costs, but also to unlock further initiatives aligned with our low-carbon strategy. This investment in solar energy represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and ensuring a greener future for the club and the wider community that uses our facilities.”
